We recently bought our first ever dutch oven and we wanted to cook something special with it. Hope you'll love this Jambalaya recipe!

Dutch Oven Jambalaya Recipe

Prep time: 20 mins | Cook time: 40 mins | Level: Medium | Yield: 3-4 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp oil (olive, avocado, or canola oil)

  • ½ white onion, diced small

  • 1 stalk celery, diced small

  • ½ red bell pepper, diced small

  • 1 chicken breast, skin removed, sliced (optional)

  • 2 sausage of choice, sliced (we recommend something spicy)

  • 2 cups of white rice

  • Homemade Jambalaya Seasoning Mix:

    • 1 clove of garlic, minced

    • 2 tsp paprika

    • ¼ teaspoon cumin

    • ½ dried thyme

  • 4 roasted, crused tomatoes (season with a dash of salt)

  • 2 cups chicken stock

  • 10 raw shrimps or prawns, deveined with tail and head on

Cooking Tools

  • Dutch Oven (we got ours from Misen and here's 20% OFF exclusively for you!)

  • Knife and Cutting board

  • Measuring cups and spoons

  • Spatula

Directions

  1. Prepare the seafood and meat. Make sure the vein has been removed from the shrimp, but you can keep the tail and head on if preferred. The perfect size is 16/20, which will be printed on the bag, but any size will work.

  2. Prepare the seasoning by mixing all the garlic, paprika, cumin, and thyme in a small bowl so it will be faster later.

  3. Add oil to the dutch oven over medium-high heat. Saute the onion, celery, red bell pepper, chicken, and sausage for about 3 minutes.

  4. Add in the rice and stir to keep it from sticking. Then add the seasoning mix, and stir constantly for about 2 minutes.

  5. Add in the roasted crushed tomatoes and chicken stock. Cover with the lid and cook for 15 minutes without opening.

  6. After 15 minutes, add in the shrimp and cover to cook for 10 more minutes, or until the shrimps turn orange. You can arrange them beautifully on top too!

  7. Wait for the shrimp to cook, and turn off the heat. The Jambalaya should be sauced but not overly soupy. Serve hot in a bowl, and enjoy with family and friends!

Honest product review: Misen's Dutch Oven

  • Price: Affordable compared to other's $400+ price tag. For just under $200, this is a steal! If you've been wanting to buy one, you should sign up for the waitlist.

  • Design: This product was thoughtfully designed. Misen improved this classic cookware and we love how versatile it is. It's gorgeous too and we'd definitely use this on our next family get-together! It's a product you'd want to display on your stovetop.

  • Functionality: Pretty versatile! You can use it on the stovetop (gas, induction, electric, etc.) and inside the oven. It can handle heat up to 500º F / 260º C.

  • Non-stick feature: Yes, it's nearly non-stick as the rice came off easily when we cooked the Jambalaya. It was pretty easy to clean too!

  • Weight: It was a bit heavy for our small hands, but it's expected as this was made with 4 layers of premium enamel. It came with 3 pieces (the dutch oven base, the traditional lid, and the silicone lid). I love how they added a lightweight silicone lid. It's pretty useful whenever I need to cover it for only a few minutes.

  • Size: It has a large cooking capacity for searing, baking, and browning. There's plenty of room in it, and you can easily make a meal for up to 10 people with it!

  • Handles: We like how it doesn't get too hot quickly. We just used our bare hands as the temperature was manageable. If you'll use it to bake inside the oven, the roomy handles offer ample space for a comfortable grip even with oven mitts on. It makes it easy to carry when it's heavy and full of food.

  • Cleaning: Easy cleanup as the surface is nearly non-stick. It's dishwasher-safe too.

Overall, it's a great product and we don't really have any complaints except for its weight, but dutch ovens are pretty heavy anyway. We'd rate it a 10/10 as we enjoyed the luxe experience of cooking with it. Definitely, #twotummiesapproved! For its price tag, durability, and aesthetic, I'm sure it wouldn't disappoint anyone.
